Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced cash awards for his state\u2019s Tokyo-bound athletes who secure medals in the upcoming Olympic Games starting July 23.<\/p>\n
During a virtual interaction with the athletes from the state, Patnaik said that the state government will provide Rs 6 crore to those winning gold, Rs 4 crore for silver and Rs 2.5 crore for bronze.<\/p>\n
Besides, Rs 15 lakh will be given to each of the athletes from the state who have qualified for the Olympics, he said.<\/p>\n
Patnaik spoke to sprinter Dutee Chand, para shuttler Pramod Bhagat along with international hockey players Birendra Lakra, Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo and Amit Rohidas.<\/p>\n
Stating that competing in the Olympics is the biggest dream for any athlete, Patnaik said, “You all have become role models for the youth of Odisha and a source of pride for your family and all of us.”<\/p>\n
The Chief Minister hoped that the sportspersons would win medals for their hard work, determination and discipline.<\/p>\n
Sprinter Dutee Chand has been selected for the Tokyo Games in the 100m and 200m events, while para shuttler Pramod Bhagat has also qualified for the Paralympics.<\/p>\n
Similarly, Lakra and Rohidas are part of the 16-member Indian men’s hockey team, while Ekka has been included in the 16-member Indian women’s hockey squad.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
